Insulin is an aqueous solution of an active principle from pancreas which affects sugar metabolism. If administered at suitable intervals in diabetes mellitus, the blood sugar is maintained at a normal level and the urine remains free of sugar. It is found in islets of langerhans in pancreas of animals hence it is a sarcode. The credit for proving this sarcode goes to Drs., William F Baker, S.K. Ghosh and L. Scheepers, K.P. Muzumdar, and (miss) K. H. Matani. History of Insulinum and cautions: - Long before the discovery of Insulin Dr. Pierre Jousset of Paris prepared a pancreatic juice on a glycerin base, which he administered to diabetic patients in doses of 10 or 20 drops a day in water and had results sufficiently good to consider pancreatic juice, orally administered, as a remedy of great value in Diabetes Mellitus. Dr. Cartier, practical successor praised it but insisted on smaller doses as large doses orally or hypodermic injections of it had no effect in ordinary Diabetes. Dr. William F. Baker advised the homeopathic strength of Insulin 3rd to 30th and reported happier results there from. Great Care must be taken not to overdose. Dr. William Boericke says that it maintains the blood sugar at a normal level and the urine remains free of sugar. Epileptic convulsions and mental derangements have been produced by hypodermic use of the hormone. Besides use of Insulin in the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus, restores the ability to oxidize carbohydrates and again storing the glycogen in the liver, some use of it homeopathically has been made by Dr. William F. Baker, showing its applicability in acne, carbuncles, erythema with itching eczema. It is useful in gouty transitory glycouria with skin manifestations when given three times daily after eating. Given a persistent case of skin irritation, boils or varicose ulceration with polyuria, if administered at suitable intervals in Diabetes Mellitus, the blood sugar is maintained at a suitable level and the urine remains free of sugar. Over dosage is followed by weakness, fatigue tremulousness and profuse sweating. Diabetes Mellitus: - It is evident that we should not ignore Insulinum and we should use it in homeopathy according to the habitual methods. But we should avoid it to give frequently and we should not give it in gross doses because of its dangers. It should be prescribed in grave cases of Diabetes Mellitus, in lean and thin consumptive patients and also in coma and in menace of coma as a remedy of urgency. But we know also how to use diluted Insulin either in lower dilutions 1x or 3x in the same sense of natural product but it should be used orally, or in medium dilutions, or in high dilutions as check, or regulator as it is done in France by Martini, and in America by William F. Baker. Materia Medica and Therapeutics: - It especially affects the following parts of the human body: It is principally useful in TUBERCULAR AILMENTS; ULCERATIONS; SUPPURATIONS and TORPIDITY. Strong Indications: -
GENERALTIES: - Patient is debilitated. Asthenia. Broken down constitution from acute infections or suppurations. Craving for sweets. Varacious appetite. Emaciation with loose bowls. Pain all over the body worse when constipated. Worse cold weather. Feels as if constipated. Weakness worse after stool. # "Do you have the confidence to use the nosodes? Or do you prefer to treat safely on the familiar ground of the classical remedies? Nosodes are not small remedies but "deep speaking unto deep". May I suggest that if you find any mention of a nosode in the course of repertorisation that it may be the one that will best to use intercurrently as a part of the treatment project." Imperfection is contradictory to His Nature and contrary to all that is required of us in our relations with man as well as with HIM." Reference:
