Glimpses of Common Kali Remedies

At present there are about 50 remedies belonging to Kali Group, but in practice not many of us include them in our choice of similimum. It is not because we lack the resources, it is because we are ignorant about their virtues or rather we are more of "Polychrest Prescribers". So below I enlist the characteristics of some of the lesser used drugs from Kali family:

Kali aceticum:

  1. Clinical: Diabetes, Diarrhoea, Dropsy, Diuresis

  2. Sweat- offensive. More on head.

  3. Urine: Profuse, watery; ammoniacal or sweetish odour; alkaline; specific gravity increased; yellowish.

  4. Amaurosis suddenly appearing during acute nephritis.

  5. Eruptions; itching < warmth of bed.

  6. Aggravation at 4 p.m.

Kali arsenicosum:

  1. Clinical: Psoriasis, Anaemia, Acne.

  2. Restlessness and nervous.

  3. A valuable remedy for inveterate skin diseases and when patient skin condition tend towards malignancy.

  4. Intolerable itching, worse undressing, walking, warmth.

  5. Rheumatic, gouty and syphilitic pains; < at change of weather.

  6. Cauliflower like excrescences of os-uteri with flying pains; foul smelling discharges, and pressure below the pelvis.

  7. All the sufferings are < at night, > rainy day.

Kali bichromicum:

  1. Clinical: Nephritis; Cirrhosis of liver; Anaemia; Rheumatism and sciatica; Bronchitis;  Dilated cardiomyopathy; Sinusitis; Polypus; Ulcers of mucous membrane.

  2. Ambitious, Perfectionist, Adherent; Morose; Aversion to business.

  3. Especially indicated for fleshy, fat light complexioned persons subject to catarrhs or with syphilitic or scrofulous history.

  4. Characteristic tough, stringy mucoid discharge which adheres to the parts and can be drawn into long strings.

  5. Pains: Quickly migrating; spotty; sharp; stitching.

  6. Absence of fever or very little fever even in acute or sub-acute phase of disease.

  7. Alternating rheumatic and gastric symptoms.

  8. < 2-3 a.m., hot weather, heat of summer.

Kali brom:

  1. Clinical: Acne, Psoriasis, Paralysis, Gout, Uremia, Albuminaria, Epilepsy.

  2. Ailments from: Grief, Worry, Business failure, Sexual excess.

  3. Remorse; want of maral feeling.

  4. Onset of disease slow, without pain.

  5. Fidgety, busy hands, wriggling.

  6. Warmblooded.

Kali carbonicum

  1. Clinical: Anaemia, Asthma, Backache, Biliousness, Catarrh, Cough, Cold, Consumption, Ear and eye affections, Gastralgia, Haemorrhoids, Kidney affections, Liver affections, Menstrual disorders, Pregnancy disorder, Stomach and Abdominal disorders, Sciatica, Throat and Lung affections, Urinary troubles, Uterine affections, Vertigo, Whooping cough etc.

  2. Sweat, Backache and weakness are the three characteristic symptoms of Kali carb.

  3. Ailments from: Exposure to cold, overstrain, sexual excess, ice cream and iced water.

  4. Anxiety: anticipatory, agitational, attachment a source of troubles; with fear when alone; felt in stomach.

  5. Dropsy every where; notable above upper eyelids.

  6. Pains: stitching; flying in all directions. <during rest and lying on affected side.

  7. Aggravation: Cold- air; draft, water; after overheating; after exertion, winters, 2-3 a.m, before menses, lying on painful or left side, loss of fluids, after parturition, abortion, stooping, after coition.

  8. Better: warmth, sitting with elbows on knees.

Kali chloricum

  1. Clinical: Hepatobiliary diseases; Ulcerations; Toxaemia of pregnancy; Stomatitis; Scurvy etc.

  2. Inflammations: Chronic, Ulcerative; Folloicular; Toxaemic; Parenchymatous; Destructive.

  3. Coldness: in different parts of organs, even in blood.

  4. Easy haemorrhages.

  5. Mental symptoms > by bleeding of nose.

Kali citricum

  1. Clinical: Bright's disease, Tympanitis.

  2. Constant and copious flatus.

  3. Pain in stomach and abdomen with the sensation as if a machine was working inside skimming the interiors.

Kali cyanatum

  1. Cancer of tongue with indurated edges.

  2. Agonising neuralgia especially of orbital and supra maxillary sinuses.

  3. Rheumatism of joints < morning, motion.

  4. Aggravation: 4 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  5. Better motion in open air.

Kali ferrocyanatum

  1. Physical and mental prostration after infection.

  2. Neuralgic affections.

  3. Aggravation: Touch.

Kali fluoricum

  1. Hard tumors in brain.

  2. Malignancy.

  3. Warm blooded.

Kali hypophosphoricum

  1. Clinical: Rickets, Phosphaturia, Cough.

  2. Bad effects of tea.

  3. Neuromuscular weakness with muscular wasting.

  4. Bones: Rickets with fretfulness, diarrhoea, delayed closing of fontanels or dentition.

  5. Phosphaturia; with history of prolonged lactation, catarrhs.

  6. Chronic cough; expectoration copious, thick fetid offensive, tough and scanty.

Kali iodum

  1. Clinical: Exostosis, Osteomyelitis, Rickets, Gout, Rheumatism, Arthritis, Arteriosclerosis, Ankylosis, Actinomycosis, Dropsy, Sinusitis.

  2. Pain - crushing or sharp stitching pains.

  3. Discharge: copious, watery, acrid, salty, thick, green or foul.

  4. Acute URTI: violent sneezing; discharge first watery, profuse, later greenish, with frontal sinusitis.

  5. Aggravation: Heat, pressure, touch, Night, damp. Changing weather.

  6. Better: motion, cool air, open air.

Kali muriaticum

  1. Clinical: Apthae, Bubo, Chilblains, Constipation, Cystitis, Dropsy, Dysentery, Ear affections of, Eczema, Eyes affection of, Haemorrhoids, Hodgkin's disease, Jaundice, Cracking of joints, Leucorrhoea, Mumps, Rheumatism, Bad effects of vaccination, Warts, Diptheria, Croup, Subacute inflammatory states, fibrinous exudates, glandular swellings.

  2. Discharge: milky white, viscid, sticky, thick, slimy or lumpy.

  3. Coating of tongue greyish white, dry or slimy.

  4. Pain - sore, cutting, stitching, shifting.

  5. Fat or rich food causes indigestion.

  6. Aggravation: Open air, cold drinks, dampness, fatty and rich food.

  7. Better: Rubbing.

Causticum:

  1. Ailments from long lasting grief and sorrow; from sudden emotions, fear, fright, joy; from anger or vexation; cares and worries, frustration; from loss of sleep, night watching; from suppressed eruptions.

  2. Intense sympathy for suffering of others. Fear that something will happen

  3. Over-compassionate; self-sacrificing; anxious; idealistic

  4. Desires smoked meat, salt, cold things.

  5. Aversion to sweets.

  6. Paralysis of single parts; generally of right side; gradually appearing.

  7. Injuries: Burns, acute or chronic; gunshot wounds; gynaec operations.

  8. Character of pain: Rawness or soreness

  9. Aggravated in Clear fine weather; Cold air, especially draft of cold air.

  10. Ameliorated in damp wet weather.
