Coffea cruda or a Coffea tosta - they do not antidote all the Homeopathic medicines. Two medicines have been proved on healthy human being from the Genus Coffea. One is Coffea cruda and the other, Coffea tosta. Both of them belong to the Natural Order Rubiacie. Coffea cruda is prepared from the raw berries; and its planetary (cosmic) doctrine is the planet Mercury; that exerts the effects on the Brain and the Endocrine Glands. Coffea tosta is prepared from the infusion of the well-roasted berries. Its planetary doctrine is Mercury and Moon. The planet, Moon exerts its effects on the Lungs and Respiratory Organs. The effects of Coffea-cr. is to be considered separately from those of the Coffea-t,; because the roasting converts much of the Caffeine into caffeine or Methylamine. Dr. John Henry Clarke said that "It has been noticed that coffee-drinkers who do get malaria are more difficult to cure than those who do not drink coffee. It is believed that coffee antidotes almost all homœopathic medicines, but it is doubtful whether it could do so especially when remedies are given in high potency". Experiences reveal that correctly selected homœopathic medicine (SIMILIMUM) acts inspite of taking coffee. Dr. Testé remarks that "Potentized Coffee-cr. prevents or neutralizes in many persons, the effects of roasted coffee". He further explained "The quasi-isopathic action is by no means confined to Coffea, potentizations of many other drugs being antidotal to secondary effects of the crude substances". Coffea cruda is incompatible toCamphora and Cocculus indica; and complementary toAconitum napellus. It antidotesNux vomica, Coffea tosta and Tabacum. Regarding Coffea-tosta Robin Murphy cites that "On account of its extensive antidotal properties Coffee has largely been condemned by homœopathic practitioners, but it should be remembered that it does not antidote all other remedies and it is questionable if it counteracts the effects of many of the drugs (viz. Nux-v, Bell, narcotic mushrooms, poisonous sumac tobacco, bitter almonds, Prassic acid, Coloc, Valer, Cicuta, Cham, Salts of Antimony, Lead, Phosphorus, Phosphoric acid) when they are given in high potencies. In any case it is desirable to forbid its use when Bell, Cham, Coloc, Ign, Lyc and Nux-v are being given". Coffea tosta is antidoted byCapsicum, Chamomilla, Coffea cruda and Nux vomica. Repertorial approach In the Relationship chapter of The Principles and Practicability of Bœnninghausen's Therapeutic Pocket Book by Dr. Timothy Field Allen [p. 380]: - Coffea antidotes: Acon., Cham, Ign., Nux v., Puls. Coffea injurious: Canth., caust., Cocc., Ign. In the Drug Relationship chapter of the Repertory of Hering's Guiding Symptoms of our Materia Medica by Dr. Calvin Brobst Knerr [p. 1204]: - Coffea cruda antidotes: Acon., Bell., Cham., Cic., Coloc., Ign., Merc., Nux v., Puls., Strychnia, Sul., Val. Coffea cruda is compatible to: Acon., IIBell., IBry., ICham., Ign., IILyc., IINux v., IIPuls., ISep., Sul., Thea. [ II indicates 4 marks; I indicates 3 marks] Coffea cruda is complementary to: Acon. Coffea cruda is inimical to: Canth., caust., Coccul., Ign. Coffea tosta antidotes the action of Bell., Cic., Cham., Val., Coff-c. Remarks From the above collected literature, conclusion can be drawn that Coffea do not antidote all the Homœopathic medicines. When well-selected remedy given in high potency, coffee does not antidote the remedy. Coffea is complementary to Aconite and also follows well many medicines. The reportorial approach reveals that it antidotes few medicines among the wide range of Homœopathic medicines. Sources : -
