Treat Pain Painlessly

Homeopathic Journal :: Volume: 3, Issue: 9, July, 2010 (Editorial)   -   from Homeorizon.com

“Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience that may or may not be associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage.” This is the definition of pain by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). It adds: “Pain is always subjective. Each individual learns the application of the word through experiences related to injury in early life. It is a sensation in a part or parts of the body, but it is always unpleasant and therefore also an emotional experience.” This definition emphasizes the physical and psychological components of pain while underlining its subjective nature. Pain is a non-reproducible experience which, although intimate and non-transferable can be communicated to others.

Pain is the test as well as triumph of medicine. The total, immediate and remote, aim of medicine and the pharmaceutical industry is to remove pain immediately, instantaneously if possible! Trillions of rupees are spent over the ever-growing new combination of painkillers.

Pain management and invention of antibiotics are the two main achievements of the modern medicine. But simply providing pain relief by suppressive measures without making the changes necessary to provide appropriate treatment for patients in pain will only foster an illusion of care that can fuel unrealistic expectations and discontent among physicians and patients.

Homeopathy on other hand, aims at the total cure of the disease, the pain disappearing in the process. Even while dealing with acute pain with acute remedies, it never loses sight of the man who is primarily ill. Total restoration of health and not only removal of symptoms is the ideal homeopathic cure.

Pain is a complex entity needs to be treated painlessly by the right method of treatment, considering all the homeopathic principles. Mind even plays an important role. As someone writes in a poem

Pulsatilla cries and

Staphisagria hits

Chamomilla kiks a row, while

Carboveg belches it out.

Aurum dwells on suicide, if

Hepar-sulph contemplates to kill.

Therefore, pain is multidimensional, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual experience, whose manifestations need to be reviewed and updated to provide our homeopathic brethren with a practical reference.

Such is the end purpose of this issue of Homeopathic Horizon.

Enjoy the Reading.
