" Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."  ~ Stanley Horowitz

Autumn is the season of the year between summer and winter during which   temperatures   gradually decrease.   Autumn is usually defined in the Northern Hemisphere as the period between the   autumnal equinox   (day and night equal in length), September 22 or 23, and the winter solstice   (year's shortest day), December 21 or 22; and in the Southern Hemisphere as the period between March 20 or 21 and June 21 or 22.

The concept of autumn in European languages is connected with the   harvesting   of crops; Animals gather food in autumn in preparation for the coming winter, and those with fur often grow thicker coats. Autumn is the season when the leaves on the trees turn vivid colors of gold, orange and red. The weather changes too. The days are warm and the evenings are cool. This is an indication that summer is ending and winter is coming soon. The wind begins to blow, and leaves fall from the gentle persuasion of Mother Nature.

The changing of the fall colors of the foliage is a pleasant event wherever it can be found. Autumn is decked with the beauties of nature. The dry clouds float in the sky. Most of them are white and bulging. They look like sail-boats fluting on the sea. Association with the transition from warm to cold weather, and its related status as the season of the primary harvest has associated Autumn with popular themes and festivals such as Thanksgiving and Halloween.

" Autumn season is here once again
Such pretty trees of red, yellow and gold
The autumn winds are strong and chilly,
As the leaves fall, it's a beauty to behold
".

~ Bernice Ward
