Homeopathy :: From Cinchona to Nanotechnology

From its birth in 1796 to the present century Homeopathy as a science has had a roller-coaster ride. Sometimes it was embraced as the second most popular mode of treatment and at other times admonished as witchcraft or system with no scientific basis. But the thing which never changed about it was the constant criticism it faced in the hands of other medical agencies and its disposition to rise and shine against opposition.

Just like the mythical Phoenix it rises every time from its ashes to serve and heal the ailing humanity.

Not long back when Dr. Samuel Hahnemann conducted experiments with Cinchona bark to introduce the science of Homeopathy he faced mighty criticism and opposition in every form. But neither did he stop experimenting nor did homeopathy stop progressing. Since then the BIG question has been the modus operandi of homeopathy i.e. how homeopathy acts. The greatest query of conventional practitioners has always been how such diluted, imperceptible quantity of medicine act? And we do admit we failed to provide them a satisfactory answer.

They have never accepted principles of Homeopathy and have always demanded tangible proof for the same. The answer came in the form of research by team of Chemical engineers of IIT-Bombay who proved through the use of powerful electron microscopes the presence of particles of constituent metals in Homeopathic medicines. The solutions used were 1 part in 10 raised to 400 parts equivalent to 200C potency and even then, the original particles were clearly present. This is a major breakthrough for Homeopaths all over the world. Finding these has shown that homeopathic medicines have doses of medication in them and are not just placebos.

But this is just not enough still there is more to be done; there are questions as to why this has been found in just metal based medicines and how this is so. One theory is that nanobubbles form in the solution and come to the surface and these nanoparticles help the solution retain the properties of the original. But how exactly it is possible is just a matter of time and further experiments. The story has just begun and there is more to follow.
