INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Dear friends, today on the event of International Women's Day I would like to discuss with all of you the present status of females in society and its impingement on rapid rise of female diseases. Women carry out around two-thirds of the world's work for less than 5% of its income, and own only 1% of its property. Women's rights to work, to be educated, to control their own fertility, health, relationships and income, and to participate in the political process, are restricted, to a greater or lesser degree, in every continent in the world.

International Women's Day is a day for asserting women's political and social rights, and for celebrating women's contributions to society. It is a day to raise awareness of the value of women's work and to remember the courageous, centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men.

Women's Day was born in 1909 following protests by American women workers in the textiles industry, against sweatshops and child labour. In 1977, 8th March was officially recognised by the United Nations as International Women's Day, and it is now celebrated in a variety of ways throughout the world.  It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.

Health is most precious gift and we believe that this is especially true for females as they are the backbone of the family and the whole of society revolves around them.  The lifetime of females goes through a number of transition phases and alteration of persona. From being born as a cuddly child, nurtured and nourished by the care of her parents she steps slowly into this world, blooms into a beautiful person - a daughter, a home maker and finally a mother and her journey in life continues. Living out in a man's world she battles out each day to rise up as complete women. In going through this journey she is apt to cope up with the demands of each relation and responsibility. In some ways the modern society is still not broad-minded, the discrimination between the fairer sex and the stronger one continues.  For e.g. inspite of being a working women there may be only a minor percentage of women who get exemption from their household responsibilities.

The sole aim of this discussion is that the modern lady in her pursuit of becoming a perfect daughter, wife and mother undergoes nisus. Thus she becomes more and more susceptible to mental stress and emotional trauma. The social club does not expect women to oppose the ongoing norms; as a result she is predisposed to suppression of her emotions. This inhibition of her feelings is projected later on the external plane of body in the form of diseases. Henceforth there is malignant rise in the cases of female diseases.

Homeopathy is an art, a science, and philosophy that analyzes disturbances in the human experience from a vitalistic, integrative and individualistic view point. Homeopathy has long ago detached itself from nosological practice to concept of individualization. It considers that it is the individual who is sick and not the body.  Homeopathy believes the body and mind are inseparable, and so it gives importance to the emotional disturbances that a woman may feel.  It takes a holistic approach towards the sick individual through the promotion of the inner balance at the emotional and physical level. Treatment is based on a constitutional and holistic approach.  Homeopathic medicines are safe gentle, non-toxic, rapid acting and DO NOT HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS. As a result the present trends show that more and more females are turning towards homeopathy for a complete cure.

In the present issue we have endeavoured to present before you an elaborate description of different female complaints and their homeopathic perspective. These ailments encompass the whole life span of a female; be it amenorrhoea of puberty, breast complaints of adolescence, antenatal complaints of mother-to-be or the menopausal ills, we have tried to blanket her whole life.

Also as a tribute we have included a compilation work of Dr. Joshi on the lives and contributions of the seven great female homeopaths of the century. We dedicate this issue to all the females alive or dead who have worked together to take homeopathy to newer horizons.

Today on the event of International Women's Day we present to you our third issue on "Homeopathy and Females"

Happy Reading!
