12 September 2011 -- Six percent of all deaths are attributed to physical inactivity making it the fourth largest risk factor for global mortality. Increasing physical activity brings health benefits across age groups and reduces mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like heart disease and stroke, diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease. World leaders at the UN high-level meeting on NCDs in New York, 19-20 September 2011, will address this issue with a new international agenda on NCDs. Source: World Health Organisation |
